About Cimbrian

History

Cimbrian's roots go back to 1986 when founder Kirk E. Barrett started assembling IBM PC compatible computers in his parents' basement and started selling them to local businesses. Kirk quickly realized a demand for these products and opened a small retail store on Columbia Avenue in Lancaster, PA. His lifelong friend, Jeffrey Griel, joined him. These two teenagers were directly out of high school and were educated through real world business experience.

Recognizing the need to expand and grow the business, they began selling local area network solutions to businesses, and started adding staff members. After years of providing millions of dollars in hardware and software to companies of all sizes, Kirk and Jeff foresaw a major change in the industry and started planning for the future. Hardware and software products were quickly becoming a commodity, and the future would be in system integration and the Internet.

Cimbrian then embarked on a major plan for growth, as business focused on commercial software development utilizing the latest web enabled software technologies. Cimbrian then teamed up with Microsoft to provide the same Internet technology consulting and programming services to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Cimbrian’s continued success with the Commonwealth led to fast growth and expansion into all areas of the government. Cimbrian provided products and services to Connecticut; Washington D.C.; Tarrant County, Texas; and many counties and municipalities in Pennsylvania. Cimbrian specialized in portal software, as well as government line of business applications.

In 2004, Cimbrian restructured in order to adapt to the changing market naming Keith Harshaw as Vice President of Operations. Cimbrian then took the process and methodologies that led to great success in the government sector and applied them to commercial businesses.

Today, Cimbrian provides IT products and services to both the government and commercial markets. Cimbrian is a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and employs over 15 Microsoft Certified Professionals plus.
